District heating is an easy, reliable, and affordable heating solution. It is hot water that circulates in the district heating network, warming the building’s radiators and floor heating, as well as domestic water through the building’s heat exchanger.
We offer locally produced district heating based on the circular economy and renewable sources to our customers in the nearby areas of Kankaanpää, Niinisalo, Honkajoki, and Pomarkku.
Affordable and Price-Stable Kankaanpää’s district heating is among the 20% cheapest district heating networks in Finland. While electricity prices can change significantly, the price of district heating is known in advance.
ReliableDelivery District heating produced from multiple energy sources offers a reliable heating method throughout the year. The delivery reliability rate of Vatajankoski’s district heating was 99.94% in 2024.
From Renewable Energy Sources In normal circumstances, our district heating is produced from renewable energy sources. We already produce over 50% of our district heating by utilizing waste heat from industries and data centers.

FAQ
Why is district heating the choice of a forerunner?
District heating is undeniably the most advanced form of heating. Energy can be produced in many ways, and Vatajankoski creates the most carbon-neutral combination possible for district heating production.
Where can I monitor my district heating consumption?
It consists of three parts: the energy charge, the power charge, and value-added tax (VAT).
How is the district heating system installed?
First, the old heating system is dismantled, and then the district heating equipment is installed. The heat exchanger is handled and installed by an HVAC technician. The installation takes 1–2 working days.
How do I transfer ownership of a district heating connection?
By contacting district heating customer service: +358 2 57825306 or lampolaskutus@vatajankoski.fi.
Does the water from the district heating network circulate in the radiators?
No, the water from the district heating network does not circulate in the building’s radiators. It only circulates on the primary side of the heat exchanger, transferring heat to the secondary side, which is the building’s heating/radiator system.
Why is district heating water green?
The water is colored green to make potential leaks in the district heating network easier to detect. The color is food-grade dye and not harmful. If green water comes from a tap, there is a leak in the building’s heat exchanger. In that case, contact an HVAC technician.
How do I connect to the district heating network?
The easiest way is to fill out the form found above. You can also contact us by phone or email. After contacting us, we will check whether our district heating network is near your home or business and easily accessible.
Why is the radiator not heating up?
A common reason is that the pressure in the radiator system has dropped below the recommended level. This can happen due to automatic air release in the system when water cools in summer. The issue is resolved by increasing the water pressure using the fill valves in the exchanger. First, turn off the circulation pump and ensure the pressure is high—around 1.5 bar. Then bleed air from the topmost radiator using the bleed screw. After bleeding, check the system pressure again.
What does climate-neutral district heating mean?
It refers to district heating verified with origin guarantees from the Energy Authority, produced using emission-free or renewable energy sources. In the first quarter of 2025, over 99% of our district heating was produced with such energy. This has been achieved through investments in recovering waste heat from industry and servers, and modernizing the combustion process at the Kankaanpää power plant.
What does ease of use mean in district heating?
District heating is a reliable choice—there’s always enough heat. It has stable pricing, so you’ll know your energy costs for years ahead, and you don’t need to worry about the environmental impact of heating. We take care of it for you.
